Saving money with appliance repairs.

Many people fear if we are called out to perform an appliance repair on their whitegoods and we do not stock the required part in the van they will be charged a second call out to fit the part. This is incorrect, clients ask us to order in parts that end up being not required. Instead of trying to self diagnose the appliance what they should have done is simply asked the question "will I be charged a second call out to fit a part if you don't have it with you?"

We would actually prefer to make two call outs and have the correct part rather than try to return an incorrect part or charge you for a part that is not required. You are only charged for the initial call out which covers half an hour labour and if the job happens to go over that half hour you are charged a low rate for each additional quarter hour.

Another way to save money on a service call is to give as much detail as possible when booking the call. Some people book in their appliance without telling us the brand or the fault.
Time = Money
Therfore.
No information = $$$$$.
Some people think it is funny when asked by the technician "what is the nature of the problem?", they respond "that's what you're here to tell us." This helps nobody, the longer it takes a technician to find out what is wrong with the appliance the more it will cost to repair.

Do not
try to diagnose the fault yourself and tell the technician what to do. This not only infuriates most technicians but it can lead them up the garden path, again increasing the cost of repairs.

The more information that is given when booking the call out the better the chances the technician will have the right spare parts and the faster the appliance will be working again. The information to have ready if asked is -
The correct brand.
A model number.
The fault.

When stating the fault, keep it as simple as possible - we do not need a record of what you had for breakfast or the last 6 people that used the appliance. Something like the washing machine just keeps filling or the fridge has been getting warmer over the last week is perfect. The technician will then ask any questions they want more information on.

Gold Coast Appliance Repairs - What do you look for in an appliance repairer?

How do you know which appliance repairer to choose?

It is not an easy task knowing which person to choose to service your trusted appliance. With so many choices and all the different claims various businesses make it can be difficult to come to a decision. Sometimes you think it would be easier to pin a page from yellow pages on a dartboard and take a shot.

There is however a few things to check for that can narrow down the process. Firstly, does the business display an actual physical address? If the business is not willing to show the precise address they operate from ask yourself "what are they trying to hide?"

Next see how long the appliance repair business has been in operation. You do not want some fly-by-nighter taking off with your appliance. If the business has been in operation more than the 5 year danger zone they are less likely to go bust while your appliance is under their care.

Find out what qualifications, certificates, licenses, and insurance the business hold. You do not want damage to your property or even worse to yourself because the technician did not know what they were doing, or not covered.

Always try to use a referral from a friend or relative that has used the appliance repair business. How did they find their business experience with the company. Was it a pleasant one or did they feel "ripped off".

What is there first point of contact like? Do you feel you bothered, or annoyed the person on the other end of the phone or were they helpful? If they are ungrateful for you giving them business, go elsewhere.
